SHORT NOTE on LOK SABHA

  1. Out of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha (लोक सभा) or House of People is the Lower house of the parliament (out of Upper House and Lower House).

  2. The member of the Lok Sabha (लोक सभा) hold seats for 5(five) years.

What is the maximum strength of Lok Sabha of India
  • The Maximum strength of the house is 552. (530 member represent states, up to 20 members represent Union Territories and note more than 2 member of Anglo-Indian communities nominated by the President of India).


  • A total number of 131 seats are reserved for representatives of SC (84 seats) and ST (47 seats).

  • The house meets in the Lok Sabha (लोक सभा) Chambers of the Sansad Bhavan, New Delhi.

  • Quorum for the house is 10% of the total membership.

  • First Session of Lok sabha held on 13th May, 1952 (1951–52 Indian general election).

  • Current Lok Sabha is the Seventeenth Session (17th Sessions) last elected in the election of May, 2019.

  • Lok Sabha holds its sittings usually from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. it does not ordinarily sit on Saturdays and Sundays and other closed holidays.

  • SESSIONS OF Lok Sabha (लोक सभा)


    The period during which the House meets to conduct its business is called a session.

    There are 3 (three Sessions) of Lok Sabha held in a year.

           1. Budget Session – (Which Continue from February to May)
           2. Monsoon Session – (Which continue from July to September)
            3. Winter Session – (which continue from November to Mid of December)

  • Lok Sabha holds its sittings usually from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. it does not ordinarily sit on Saturdays and Sundays and other closed holidays.

  • Members of the Lok Sabha are directly elected by the people of India, on the basis of Universal Suffrage.

  • The minimum age of to be Lok Sabha Member should not be less than 25 years of age.

  • Motions of no confidence against the government can be introduced and passed in the Lok Sabha.

  • Money bills can only be introduced in the Lok Sabha, and upon being passed, are sent to the Rajya Sabha, where it can be deliberated on for up to 14 days.

  • SHORT NOTE on RAJYA SABHA

    1. Out of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) or Council of States is the Upper House of the Parliament of India (out of Upper House and Lower House).

    2. The members of Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा)holds their sits for 6(six) years
    and the 1/3 (one third) members of Rajya Sabha retiring every two years.
  • The maximum strength of Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) is 250 (Two hundred fifty).


  • 12 Members of Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) can be appointed by the President of India for their contributions to Arts, Literature, Science and Social Services.

  • Members of Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) are indirectly elected by the State and Territorial Legislatures using Single Transferable votes.

  • The ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) is Vice President.

  • The minimum age to be a member of Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) is 30 years old ( as per the article 84 constitution of India).

  • The Rajya Sabha held its first sitting on 13 May 1952.

  • The Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) has facility for simultaneous interpretation in all the 22 (twenty two ) official languages of India.

  • The Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) can only make recommendations for the Money Bill but the Rajya Sabha cannot amend the Money Bill.

  • Leader of the House of Rajya Sabha (राज्य सभा) is appointed by the Prime Minister who is Cabinet Minister has a seat next to the Chairman, in the front row.

  • Rajya Sabha is a permanent body and it is also called Continuous Chamber. 'Unlike the Lok Sabha, which usually lasts for 5 years and fresh elections are held, the Rajya Sabha has no specific term and continues. So, it never dissolves or is not subject to dissolution.
